The Ten Commandments of Driving

By John Roche

Hey everybody!  Today we celebrate the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, who is one of my favorite saints.  You’re probably asking “John, why are we talking about Francis?  What does he have to do with today’s episode?”  Well, I’m going to let you in on it.  Today’s episode we are discussing the “Ten Commandments of Driving.”  These commandments came from the document, Guidelines for the Pastoral Care of the Road, issued by the Vatican in June 2007.  The commandants are designed to promote peace and safety on the roads throughout the world.

St. Francis wrote a prayer about peace.  You probably know it, “Make me a channel of your peace…”  This prayer, for me is one that I try to reflect on before I get behind the wheel of a car or get in a car with a friend or family member.  I always try to say a prayer before the journey gets started to ask for safe passage as well as to fill me with peace for what lies ahead.  I think that prayer is one of those small things that we can do that can make a world of difference.  The next time that you get on the road, take a few moments to ask God for a safe trip!  Know that I’m praying for you this week!

God Bless,
John <><
