In the Word: Thanks Dad!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you out in Real Faith TV World!

Fitting that this week’s readings work a bit with what is dominating all of our thoughts this week – shopping!  Haha, well I hope that is not the most important thing on our minds, and that is not actually what the readings deal with either.  The readings actually deal with the idea of giving thanks to God – good timing huh?

The second reading reads, “Let us give thanks to the Father, who has made you fit to share in the inheritance of the holy ones in light. He delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

The truth is that everything that is good comes from God; our Father in Heaven.  He is our “Abba”, our “Daddy”.  The wonderful advances in science and technology come from Him since He is our maker and the origin of all of our gifts, talents and abilities.  Without Him we cannot even breathe.  It is amazing to think of the many blessings we have.  It is overwhelming to think about the miracle that is human life and that we each were born into creation and in such a place as the United States.  Not only that, we live such a great life and have so many chances to discover, live and cherish so many experiences.  Wow!  It is awesome and we should truly be grateful deep inside.

If we adopt an attitude of gratitude this week and work to keep it through Christmas, we will find ourselves living more thankfully and more respectfully.  We will not take people, or food, or gifts, or education, or opportunity for granted but really thank God for them.  It will help us to pray differently.  It will help us see God differently.  It will help us see ourselves and all we love differently.  All that is good is gift; remember that and live it!  May we all have an attitude of gratitude.  Think. Pray. Decide. Change.

You are loved! Happy Thanksgiving!  Remember to tell the people you are grateful for that you love them; they need to hear it!
