    Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time

In the fast-paced world of teenage life, it’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of school, social activities, and personal pursuits. However, amidst the chaos, it’s essential to ground ourselves in the teachings of Jesus Christ. There are powerful lessons we can draw from our Gospel for Sunday, where Jesus heals a leper.

What is our first lesson? Compassion. Jesus is moved with compassion. He not only heals the leper but touches him—a gesture of love and acceptance.

Each of us is called to emulate the compassion of Christ. In our daily lives, we encounter those who may feel marginalized, lonely, or rejected. Whether it’s a classmate who sits alone at lunch or someone struggling with personal challenges, we are called to extend a hand of compassion, just as Jesus did for the leper. True compassion knows no boundaries and seeks to heal wounds, both visible and invisible.

Lesson two: Humility. The leper’s act of kneeling before Jesus reflects a profound humility. In our journey of faith, it’s crucial to cultivate a humble spirit, acknowledging our dependence on God and recognizing the dignity of others. We can learn from the leper’s humility and approach God with open hearts, ready to receive His grace and love.

Lesson three: Embracing the Outcast. Jesus’ willingness to touch the leper speaks volumes about breaking societal norms to show love. Each of us are challenged to be inclusive and embrace those who may be on the fringes of our social circles. It’s a call to reach out to the marginalized, offering them friendship, understanding, and acceptance.

This Gospel story, like so much of Scripture provides us with timeless lessons. The Gospel is a living word, it impacts us each day that we read it. It is filled with lessons of compassion, humility, and inclusivity and so many more. As we navigate the challenges of adolescence, let us strive to embody the teachings of Jesus in our interactions with others. By embracing the spirit of compassion, we can contribute to creating a more loving and inclusive community, reflecting the transformative power of Christ’s love in our lives.
