“Trust In The Plan” By Allison Provinsal, Fiat Ventures

The Gospel reading this Sunday challenges us to believe in miracles. Something that, believe it or not, many people do not believe in! It is easy to miss that God is always working little miracles in our daily lives. Maybe he is not feeding thousands with five loaves and two fish in front of our eyes, but he is providing for us, sometimes when we are not quite sure how. It has been an ongoing struggle for me personally to trust in God’s plan and to trust that “God will provide”. I struggle with the boundaries between my plan and his plan. I don’t think this is an uncommon struggle, but I think it is one that we need to recognize and embrace. Accepting that God has a great plan for each of our lives, and being free to trust that plan and trust in his provisions, is something that can give you so much peace and joy as you go through life.
I have been challenged personally over the past year or so to recognize how much God provides for my family and me. Having a daughter, somewhat before we were ready, put a bit of a wrench in our planning, especially financially. As I can tend to be a bit of an over planner and some may say, control freak, this was a little harder for me to swallow gracefully. It challenged me to trust, that God would provide, as he did in this Gospel reading. Looking back on this past year or so, I can so clearly see how well God provided for my family and me, and how his plan was infinitely greater than my plan could have ever been.
If we remember back to the second reading, we are reminded of the amazing gift that Jesus gave to us. He gave His Body and Blood, so that we may be filled. Every Sunday, every day for some, we go to Mass, and receive this gift of the Body and Blood of Jesus. This is the food for our souls. This is our tool and our weapon to go out and fight the good fight. This is our source of strength, to tackle the week with grace and trust in our amazing God. This gift is one that should not be forgotten, or underplayed. Why not trust in such an amazing God, who offers his son to become man, die on a cross and rise again for our fulfillment? How could we even doubt that this God would have such an amazing plan for our lives?
Trusting in God through the hard times makes our relationship with him grow and our love for him deepen. The disciples may have question Jesus initially, wondering how they were expected to feed so many, but once they stepped aside and let Jesus work in the situation, his provisions were more than enough. We need to embrace this gospel reading, not as a myth or a fairy tale story, but as a guide on how to live life. If we trust in God’s plan, and allow our pride and our plans to be put aside, God will provide abundantly, and we will not be disappointed!
