By Jonathan Camiolo –

Just last weekend, I was honored to stand before the Cardinal and tell him that 150 youth that I work with had prepared for the sacrament of Confirmation.  I certified that they were ready and had the desire to have the faith handed to them by their parents and godparents confirmed.  He accepted them, prayed over them, and then anointed them.  They were confirmed and given a great blessing of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.  It was a beautiful day and a wonderful celebration.

In all my years of working with young people, I have always had a passion for Confirmation.  This is because when I was 14 years old and stood before the Bishop for my Confirmation, it did not mean much to me.  I did not realize the gift that God was giving me.  I did not know and take advantage of the power of the Holy Spirit that God gave me.  It was years later before I realized what happened on that day.

Think to yourself.  Do you:

  • Ever feel alone?
  • Ever not know what to do?
  • Ever up at night not able to sleep because you are worried?
  • Ever scared of the future?
  • Ever confused about a relationship?
  • Ever feel overmatched by a situation?
  • Ever feel like no one will understand?

Read the following from the gospel.  In John we read Jesus saying the following, “I have told you this while I am with you. The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you.  Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.  Not as the world gives do I give it to you.  Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.”

The Holy Spirit is the presence of God in our lives at every moment.  When we start to believe and understand that God wants to be a part of every aspect of our life, we will learn to recognize and depend on the power of the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit is there to go through the tough situations, give us courage when things are difficult, guidance when confusion is the only feeling, comfort when we are down, sad or alone, and to simply give us hope that the future is bright because God loves us and will never leave us.  The Holy Spirit is God’s gift that can help us truly have peace because we will learn to place our trust in God, no matter what.

Come Holy Spirit!!!  Help us see You working and present in our lives!  Give us peace!  Help us trust in God’s awesome love and plan!
