Alleluia He is Risen!

By Lisa Greey –

Happy Easter! My favorite mass of the year and the highest celebration in
the Church! Lent is over and it’s time to celebrate! Easter is not just about candy,
bunnies and baskets. It is about celebrating Christ’s love for us and his plan for our
Salvation. Because of his death and resurrection, we have access to eternal life. Sin
does not have the last say – “O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH,
WHERE IS YOUR STING? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law;
but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” I Cor 15:54-57. That is cause for great rejoicing!
As you eat peeps and robin eggs and chocolate bunnies, remember what
those things symbolize. They all point to new life. Even the fake Easter grass in
your basket, which 100 years ago would have likely been real grass, is a symbol of
new life. Why? Society will say oh these are just symbols of spring. But we know
the truth, they are symbols of the new life we have in Christ through his
resurrection.
I love the gospel reading today. Mary Magdala is the first one to notice that
Jesus’ tomb is empty. She and other women stayed with him throughout the
passion, and in another Gospel she is the one who first encounters the Risen Christ.
I hope you were able to fully enter into the liturgies this week. I hope you imagined
yourself in each scene and stayed with Christ, just like Mary and John. And today, I
hope you can celebrate – truly celebrate – that because of Easter you can be united
with God!
