Fifth Sunday of Lent
Have you ever been in confession, or even in the confession line, and afraid to say or think about that one sin? That one sin that keeps you away from God… that makes you feel embarrassed, guilty and ashamed. You don’t believe that God will forgive you, or that the priest will absolve you from your sins. Well, I am here to tell you that you are wrong.
Jesus in the Gospel today shows us in his actions how merciful He and God the Father is through the woman who committed adultery. He states, “Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” None of the Pharisees were sinless, only Jesus is. Yet, he says at the end of the Gospel: “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She replied, “No one, sir.” Then Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on do not sin anymore.”
Jesus did not condemn her!!! Even though she committed a detrimental sin. He was not sent here to rebuke us, but to call us to repentance, to return to Him. With full vulnerability of our hearts, it is necessary that we ask for forgiveness. And through the graces of his mercy and love, he will grant you forgiveness as well as the desires of your heart. Trust in the Lord God Almighty, place Him first in your life, and watch how everything will come into place. How will Jesus change your life right before your eyes?
Don’t ever be ashamed to go to confession and set your sins at the foot of the cross. Remember the last words the priest says in confession, “May God forgive you, you have been absolved from your sins, go and sin no more, go in peace.”
