Thirty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus tells us that we must stand firm in our beliefs and our faith, to be like Him, and not to fear what may come. We know that in this world it is often not easy to be a follower of Jesus. Sometimes we are ridiculed or criticized. Many times, we even feel ashamed or afraid to say that we love Christ. But Jesus tells us that we must not be afraid, that we must stand firm in Him. He will give us all the tools we need to continue, no matter what happens.
Sometimes it can feel like we live in a world where there is no hope. We live in a world where war exists, and where there are disputes between sister nations. Where children are victims. Where rulers don’t prioritize protecting their people but instead think about power. But we, as followers of Christ, have the power to begin making changes in our lives and in our surroundings.
God, in His love, will keep us strong no matter what happens. Trust in God during difficult times He will give us the strength to move forward. Start by making small changes in your life. Don’t be afraid to let others know that you love Jesus, choose to share and spread His word. Help your parents at home with your chores and don’t be a burden. Be a good person to your classmates. If you see someone who needs you, try to help them. Stop criticizing others and spreading gossip about them, or simply making fun of the way others think, dress, or act. Be an instrument of peace and love, carrying Christ’s message to all who need it and want to hear it. We must be examples of Him, and then, little by little, we will see a change in the world.
Let us make the decision today to begin changing our lives so that when that moment arrives and Christ comes again, we will feel calm and confident, because we will know that the reward that awaits us in Jesus will be the best thing that could ever happen to us.
