Fourth Sunday of Easter

It may seem like an unfamiliar way to think about God, but have you ever thought that He may be the one to feed you? In every way you could have possibly imagined, and that if you let Him, you could never go hungry a day in your life.

If it’s still hard to grasp, let’s look to this Sunday’s readings, more specifically the second reading. It comes from the book of Revelation. It says “They will not hunger or thirst anymore, nor will the sun or any heat strike them. For the Lamb who is in the center of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to springs of life-giving water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” Now doesn’t that sound promising? You might be thinking, what’s the catch? Listen, this isn’t like one of those “free tacos for a year” certificates from Taco Bell with all the limits, restrictions, and exceptions, this is a promise with no strings attached.  This is a promise and truth that the creator of the universe has made, for you. Yes, you.

It can be hard to grasp to think that God that is looking out for you, in the midst of the crowd. That He is desiring the best for you, desiring all things for you. That you would never go hungry. That you would always be protected. That you will be sheltered and provided for. But it is the Truth. Have you ever wondered or feared that you would not be taken care of? That fear can be dissipated by allowing God into your life. This reading is an example of just that. With the people of God knowing and believing God’s goodness from the start.

This Sunday is known as Shepherd Sunday. Will you be God’s sheep? Will you allow Him to shepherd you? I challenge you this week to look towards God and wonder. Just wonder. Picture a life where you allow God to provide for you. What would you ask of Him? What do you think He would provide for you? He promises that they will not hunger, they will not thirst. That promise is made for you too.
